The Ruddy duck is a casual visitor to campus: a male was seen 24-29 Jan 2014 in North Badger Basin. It is a common year-round resident in southern California, with additional birds present during the winter.Breeding male Ruddy Ducks can be identified by their chestnut body, black crown and white cheeks, and bright blue bill. In winter the males have dull brown bodies and black bills. Females are similar to winter males but with a brown stripe through the white cheek.
