Cal State San Bernardino staff and alum, John Futch, tracked down book bargains for himself while pursuing his degrees from CSUSB in 1995 and 2001. He has since spent a good bit of time and his own money securing texts for other students.

Futch, who retired in 2007, directed CSUSB’s Cross Cultural Center from 1998 to 2007, and opened a drive for a $100,000 “Friends of John Futch Textbook Endowment.” Students who maintain a 2.0 grade point average may get assistance in buying non-science texts that usually cost $40-$60 and science texts that are typically $60-$200. “Because I don’t have a lot of money myself, I’m trying to get as many of my friends and friends of my friends to give to what I consider a worthy cause.”
