1. Informational Handouts. President Karnig discussed the following:
· Table on Entering Freshmen Data
· An article from The Chronicle of Higher Education, dated April 14, entitled “Two-Thirds of Students Get Financial Aid, Federal Report Says.”
· An article from The Chronicle of Higher Education, dated April 17, entitled “California May Fall One Million College Graduates Short by 2025, Report Says.”
2. Policy on Speech and Advocacy
This policy was first approved by the Administrative Council on June 4, 1990, and has been revised three times since then. Mr. Freund discussed the third revision, which is now under consideration. Dr. Karnig requested that Mr. Freund invite Carrie Hemphill Rieth, the campus’ attorney, to a future meeting to discuss the policy. Members of the Administrative Council were asked to send their questions to Mr. Freund, who will share them with Ms. Rieth.
3. Roundtable
Dean Clark discussed “Conversations on Diversity.”
Dean Caballero reported that the recent lecture was well attended.
The men’s golf team is competing in national championships this week.
Dean Yasuhara announced the opening reception for the Museum exhibit on Thursday. April 23.
Dean Arlin reported that the Open House at the Library was well attended.
Dr. McGowan reported that, by May 1, we should have the list of PAES Scholars.
Dr. Rincón reported that ASI has collected a donation to the University of L’Aquila and he is in the process of finalizing with ASI where to send the funds.
Mr. Gardner reported that the custodians are preparing an Inventory of Appliances.
Mr. Kendle, on behalf of ASI, expressed thanks to the university for the Virginia Tech observance; announced International Night which includes a meal (the cost is $5); and reported that the ASI elections will be bringing a slate of new officers.
