Dean's Message
The College of Education is a leader in the region and the nation in the development of professionals in education and human services. Our fully accredited programs are among the most respected in the region, having in many cases both state and national accreditation such as the prestigious National Council for the Accreditation of Teacher Education. Central to any accreditation processes is that a college demonstrate adherence to a conceptual framework. Our conceptual framework describes the qualities we want to see in each of our graduates. We describe that person as a "wise teacher/professional educator". A "wise professional educator" has developed rich subject matter knowledge and uses sound pedagogical strategies and judgment. The wise educator respects a variety of viewpoints and has an appreciation of context and sensitivity to a variety of cultural perspectives. Finally the wise educator recognizes the complexities of teaching and learning and demonstrates a willingness to try a variety of ways of supporting and assisting student learning and development. |
